Finding The Right Balance

“To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Do you struggle to find balance in your life? Do you sometimes feel like you are constantly running around and not accomplishing anything? Do you sometimes feel like you are not living up to the expectations that you or someone else has on your own life?

God has an answer for this in Scripture. In the parable of the talents, Jesus talks about the bags of talents that were given to each person according to their ability. We can see that God gives us different talents, capabilities and strengths. It is specifically mentioned that the talents, capabilities and strengths are given according to the ability of the servant. God understands who will be able to use the talents, capabilities and strengths to their full potential. The person who used their talents, capabilities and strengths the right way was blessed and rewarded.

We all have different strengths and weaknesses in our lives. We must AVOID comparing ourselves to other people and their abilities. God gives each of us unique gifts for His Purpose. We should AVOID trying to do things that God has told us NOT to do. When we try to be someone that God has not created us to be that's when we run ourselves down. The end result is that we feel insecure and upset.

The feelings of being insecure and upset are due to us conforming to the pattern of the world. When the Bible says not to conform to the standards of this world, it is talking about having the mindset that the world has. The world says that you can have it all. But that is simply not true. The truth is that we are NOT GOING TO HAVE IT ALL!! God wants us to utilize the talents and the capabilities that He has specifically given us for His Purpose. He has given all of us different abilities. When we use those specific abilities for His Purpose, we will be rewarded and blessed.

When we are following after God and doing what He has called us to do, not everyone around us will be happy. We won’t be able to please others and God at the same time. We are given limited time, energy and resources. We need to utilize them appropriately to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives. When we do what God has asked us to do with the time, energy and resources that He has given us, we will achieve the right balance for our lives.

To achieve a right balance for our lives, we need to take an inventory of our time, energy and resources. Find out the areas where we are wasting time – decrease or eliminate the time-wasting activities. Increase or enhance productive activities. Find better time management strategies. Plan for ways to decrease stress in your life.

We have limited energy. Take inventory of the things in your life that are draining you. Find the things in your life that are energizing. If possible, avoid activities that are physically and emotionally draining. Preserve your energy for worthwhile activities that will fulfill the Purpose that God has for your life.

We also have limited resources. This means that we have limited amounts of financial resources. We can only earn a certain amount of income. Money is not an endless resource -it is limited. We need to live with greater margins so that we are not always stressed out about money. We should not get ourselves into financial debt, live beyond our means or try to keep up with others. We should take an honest inventory of our own finances and live accordingly. These are some practical ways to find a better balance in our lives.

God says in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things will given to you as well”. Remember to always put God first, spending time with Him first, and following after Him. Seek Him for direction in these areas to find the right and appropriate balance for your individual life.
