My Peace I Give you!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.””

What is the Peace that Jesus was talking about? Why does He say that His peace is unlike the world's peace? The Peace that Jesus is talking about is present despite the circumstances that are going on around you. Anyone can have peace when things are going well in their life. But the Peace that God gives us surpasses all understanding. It is a sense of calm despite the chaos that can (often) go on around us. This Peace comes from being in the Presence of God. God wants us to trust Him despite the storms, troubles and insecurities we may feel.

We know that in this world we will have trouble. However, Jesus says, “..take heart I have overcome the world”. In other words, He is saying, “don’t worry, I am here for you and I will help you get through this tough time.” What is Jesus saying when He says I have overcome the world? He saying that He is God, He is in control. Even when it feels like things are unplanned or in disarray, God can still work things out for our good.

Romans 8:28 says “ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose". Even when we don’t see it, God is still working things out for our good. We need to trust Him, walk with Him and talk to Him. He will carry us through these difficult times.

We don't need to fear the troubles of this life. We don't have to fear what's going on around us. We have the God of the universe carrying us in the palm of His Hand. God wants to give an invitation to those who have not felt His Peace in their lives. He is saying, “I give you peace, peace I leave with you.” The Peace that God wants to give you is Peace that surpasses all understanding.

Let us pray.
